SPECIAL PUBLICATION PRIZE

The JAHF Special Publication Prize is open to projects in formats other than a classical monograph including edited volumes, translated books (both to or from Japanese), digital initiatives, publications in languages other than English or Japanese, or any other project in a format not listed that will make a substantial contribution to the field of Japanese Art. We will also consider image permission fees for publications with contracts. A special priority will be given to projects outside the English-speaking world, in languages other than English.

Applications will be judged based on the overall quality of the project and the need for financial support. We are especially looking for projects that can potentially expand JAHF’s presence globally, and beyond its current centers.

The maximum prize is $4,000. The winner can choose to use the award to defray publishing costs (in which case JAHF will send the funds to the publisher), or to defray the cost of acquiring image permissions (in which case JAHF will reimburse the author, contingent upon the author providing itemized receipts). The JAHF Board reserves the right to award one or more prizes, or to award no prizes.

All proposal submissions must be strictly related to the field of Japanese art history and visual culture.

The JAHF Special Publication Prize is made possible by Japan Art History Forum membership dues.
