DESCRIPTION:
Tokyo University of the Arts (TUA) is pleased to announce the 10th
International Workshop on Japanese Art History for Graduate Students
(JAWS). Aiming at international exchanges between emerging scholars\,
JAWS was inaugurated in 1987 at the University of Tokyo\, and\,
thereafter\, was held elsewhere in Japan\, US\, and UK. The total number
of JAWS participants has risen to 242. Many of them now assume leading
roles in the field of Japanese art\, as scholar\, curator\, or teacher.
As such\, JAWS connects different generations of people active in
various places in the world who are engaged in the history of Japanese
art.

The 10th JAWS will be held on August 16-26\, 2012\, at the main campus
of Tokyo University of the Arts\, in Tokyo\, and at TUA’s Institute of
Ancient Art Research\, in Nara. The workshop will include paper
presentations in Japanese by participants and fieldtrips to various
museums and temples.

We ask you to encourage a qualified student to apply. Advanced
postgraduate students who specialize in the history of Japanese art
and who are registered at a university in Japan\, North America\, Asia\,
or Europe are eligible. Please note that\, in order to invite
participants from diverse institutions\, we accept only one application
per university. &nbsp\;The committee will select final participants based on
the quality of application materials. For more information\, please
refer to “Workshop Details” and “Application Procedure” in the
attached document. Applications should be submitted by E-mail by April

15\, 2012 (Japan time).

---

Please note that all doctoral candidates (postgraduate
students) at any stage of the program are eligible for consideration\;
preference will be given to more advanced students with advanced Japanese
language skills. The organizers request that relevant faculty at each
institution consult amongst themselves to nominate only one candidate from
each institution. Students interested in being nominated by their
institutions should consult with their faculty advisors. Applications
should be submitted by E-mail by April 15\, 2012 (Japan time).
